Climate Reanalysis/GCM Maps

This interface is used for creating map images of monthly-average climate fields from reanalysis and general circulation models. Not sure which dataset to choose? Refer to our Available Datasets page. You can learn more about reanalysis here and GCMs here.

  1. Choose Parameter (e.g. temperature) and, if applicable, pressure Level.
  2. Select a Month. In addition to Jan-Dec, you may select annual and seasonal averages.
  3. Choose Plot Type. Average = plot the average across specified time range; Difference = plot the difference between two specified time ranges.
  4. Select Dataset 1*, then under Span choose: Single to plot values from a single year; Multiple to average across a range of years from Start to End; or Specific to enter specific years.
  5. Difference map only — Select Dataset 2* and year Span as in Step 4.
  6. Choose image Projection (either 2D Map or 3D Globe), and select desired Region. Check Google Earth for a KMZ file to be generated with the plot. Check Contour Plot for a contoured image.
  7. Click Plot to render the image.

     * Use ERA-Interim (default) if you are not familiar climate reanalyses and GCMs.
