UMaine Dynamical Downscaling Output

These directories contain sample raw and processed output files from the simulations done by the University of Maine Climate Forecasting Project. Raw model output from the WRF regional climate model (every three hour or 8 times per day) have been processed to create daily and monthly averages for the available simulation periods. Additionally, atmospheric variables were interpolated from model levels to mandatory pressure levels.

All model files – both raw and processed – are in netCDF format.

• NCEP: three one-year simulations (1983, 1986 and 1989) using NCAR/NCEP global reanalysis data for initial and boundary conditions. These runs are used to verify the model performance against observational data.
• 3hour: sample raw output, one day per file per domain
• daily: sample daily averages, one month per file per domain
• month: monthly averages: one year per file per domain


• NCEP_TP: as for NCEP, but with reduced variable set (only 2-meter temperature and precipitation)


• WRF_DS: scripts and observations used for the workshop exercises.

In linux, to download entire directories, consider using wget. For example, to download all the NCEP climatology files into a "climo" directory created in the current directory, use

wget -r -nH -np -c --cut-dirs=3 --reject "index.html*" http://weather.unl.edu/RCM/data/NCEP/climo/
